Lawful Islamism: The Numbers Game

So far, we've discussed all of the facets of Lawful Islamism that make it a threat to Western Society. We began with how it influences public debates with propaganda and, as is the case in some circumstances, outright lies called Taqiya. We covered its alliance with the left through the authoritarian concept of political correctness. We followed it through the courtroom and into the classroom.

But special considerations and propaganda aren't much of a threat if one is looking at a small group of people. How many Muslims engaged in Lawful Islamism can make a radical change in society's openess and create enough of a diversion to open a path to violent terrorism? That's the question still awaiting an answer, but Europe provides some relatively useful data.

In the last four days, Britain has dealt with three attempts to create mayhem with terrorism. Almost immediately, cries arose that Muslims were being singled out unfairly, even though the media did everything but identify who the attackers were in initial reports. These attackers were apparently outsiders imported into England for the purpose of terror attacks. But as I pointed out earlier today in a post about a column written by a former jihadi, the net result of Europe's (and in this specific case, Britain's, refusal to name the enemy because of the strictures of multicultural political correctness has led to an environment ripe for recruitment of the next generation of terrorists, born and raised in Europe, not the Middle East.

Could a tiny minority place such an overwhelming burden on the common sense of an entire continent? Perhaps such a minority could. After scouring the internet for reasonable demographics, I drew the conclusion that it is impossible to gauge even the numbers of Muslims in Europe, much less how many are engaged in the jihad of Lawful Islamism. I decided to go with some basic demographics and then speculate on baselines relative to effects.

First, the BBC and the EU place the number of Muslims in Europe at 53 Million, with 16 million in nations within the European Union.

I found 2 graphics to place the numbers into a visual context. The first is from the BBC and the Second is from Wikipedia. Both Grapics are links to the accompanying data from each site. - Continues Below

The demographics reflect a small population of Muslims in the EU. Of that overall demographic, an even smaller number likely engage in lawful islamism. Yet, consider their impact:

For months, cars were torched throughout France in an orgy of angry protest at French Government treatment of Muslims, yet almost nothing was seen in the media about the problem, thereby prolonging it until it became intolerable for most of the French and, some argue, paved the way for a Sarkozy government.

In Germany, where a serious problem with "honor killing" is spreading, a judge attempted to use Shari' a to settle a divorce case, in spite of the fact that "honor killing" is codified (in some more radical sects) by Shari' a.

In Britain, schools engaged in multicultural learning create a cultural malaise that turns into a breeding ground for radical jihadis.

These three examples all derive from legal pressure placed on the institutions of these Western countries by Lawful Islamists. Denmark has incredibly difficult issues to face with honor killing, but the Danish press is barred by court order from confronting Islam. Norway had a rape outbreak by Middle Eastern Immigrants, but in some cases, women were not warned about the danger, because a court had ruled that such warnings would constitute a policy of discrimination.

All of those are microcosms and small examples, unless, of course, one is the rape victim, had his or her car burned, or lives in a neighborhood filled with violent jihadis courtesy of the corner school. If we believe the numbers we see, this is a tiny minority that can pave the way for such havoc. Based on the numbers I've seen, about 1.5 to 2% is the flashpoint for such pressure against a government that basic intelectual honesty is tossed aside for the strictures of PC and unreasonable policies based on the objections of a tiny fraction of the population.

Our best estimate is that the United States is below that demographic tipping point. But for how long will we be short on aggrieved minorities clamoring for radical changes in the way we run our society? Is there an immediate threat? That's the second unanswered question.

The fact is, we are on borrowed time. Each passing year sees more silly decisions and changes in policy that effect transportation, education, and in the case of many bloggers, free speech. There are targeted and clear attempts to supress information about radical Muslim groups in the United States that are dressed in the disquise of civil rights organizations. And it would be important to remember that their allies on the authoritarian left add to their political effectiveness and legal clout.

So the picture is grim.

But I have good news. There is a way to fight back. Daniel Pipes outlined an entire action plan to fight the spread of Lawful Islamism. Next week, I'll conclude my series with how we can act to curb the spread of Lawful Islamism in the United States, before we are forced to live with the surrealistic and nightmarish problems that plague Europe.
