Giuliani Supports Israeli Membership in NATO

Rudy Giuliani

From the "Not a bad idea" File:

Full Story at JTA News:

"Rudy Giuliani called for Israel to be included in an expanded NATO.

Addressing an Anglo-American friendship group in London, the Republican presidential candidate said Wednesday that NATO should be encouraged to press the global war on terror.

"We should open the organization's membership to any willing state that meets basic standards of good governance, military readiness, global responsibility -- regardless of location," Giuliani said. "I think we should consider countries such as Australia, Singapore, India, Israel, Japan."

Could we shortcut the United Nations and actually have a separate, legitimate relationship with Democracies only? Not bad, Mr. Mayor; not a bad way to practically apply the idea of a United Democratic Nations.

Giuliani doesn't know anything about the world. He is pretending to be something he is not. The candidate that has real global experience is Daniel Imperato www.imperato2008.com

Uh, whatever. I haven't hit the link and don't advise anyone to do so. Might be spam.

I haven't heard Rudy say anything about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad coming to America, the UN, ground zero. I may have missed it.

Including Israel in defensive union is a good idea, but im not sure NATO is the proper vehicle.

We may want to create regional organizations in Asia and the Middle East.

The basic idea is good.

Yeah, Debbie, I've wondered about that myself. Romney is in full gear on this one. The flip side is that Giuliani may be hamstrung by the fact that he is a former mayor.

Unlike Jimmy Carter, who will prostitute his support out to any tom dick or harry dictator and criticize the current office holder, President Bush, Giuliani may be excersizing restraint in deference to Bloomberg's office.

Or, he could alternately be timing his comments differently. I'm curious to hear what he has to say about it.

Thanks for Rudy's comments. I knew he would come through on this one. Yep, I heard Romney's comments yesterday. It's time to step up presidential candidates, speak you mind. Things like this will sway voters.
